It maintains the Assynt Food Larder in Lochinver.
It makes grants from its Luis Gouveia Fund to support young Assynt residents who wish to travel to pursue charity, educational, sporting or cultural endeavours.
Over the years, it has been involved with many other projects and initiatives, including provision of motorhome facilities at Assynt Leisure Centre; fundraising for upgrading the car park and toilets at Achmelvich Beach; fundraising for the Clashnessie Falls footpath; and running various consultations including on potential uses of local sites and buildings including Stoer School.
We believe that the Trust has made, and has the potential to continue to make, a positive difference to the community of Assynt. Do you? Or do you think it could do better?
Making a difference is not easy. The Trust relies on volunteer directors to function. There are no particular qualifications for the director role: just a little free time, the desire to work for the good of the community, willingness to work collaboratively, the ability to consider differing opinions openly and objectively…and enthusiasm for engaging with the societal challenges that Assynt and the wider region face.
We currently have vacancies for several directors. We seek interest from all corners of Assynt. We would be particularly interested in people with experience or skills relevant to: enterprise unit creation, croft creation, renewable energy installation, or facilities management.
